I recently received a response from a sage colleague of mine regarding this blog. Although scary it is right on target and needs to be shared. Here it is:

You forgot to mention that if implemented according to the accelerated Congressional plan, it will result in about 90% of suppliers and over 1 million jobs for dedicated professionals to go away. Great savings, unless you run the unemployment office!

Dave,

You and I have discussed the pit falls of competitive bidding in the past, especially for equipment and supplies with clinical significance.

There are always unintended consequences and we can expect a few stumbles with competitive bidding as well. But the perfect should never be the enemy of the good. There are many aspects of competive bidding that make sense, especially for certain items. The Veteran's Administration is the likely model CMS is following. It will take all of our insights and efforts to get it right.

Keep the discussion going!

Dave great blog! Your comments and examples are perfect to make the complex topic of competitive bidding meaningful and understandable. I recommend sharing this with advocacy organizations to post on their websites or link to your article. I look foward to reading more! Laura

I worked with Randy Snow as a speaker for a number of years, and loved his attitude and exuberant energy. My clients loved Randy as well. As one said, he "raised the bar" from a speaker standpoint. We flew home together after a conference earlier this year. I could not keep up with that man's incredible energy. Randy had a way of touching people deep inside and getting them excited about Life and living it fully. He expanded our thinking about our own potential and was delightful, smart, professional, independent person who was a great communicator. He made his mark in this world.

Hi Heidi,

I recommend speaking with your healthcare professional that knows the medical history and background of the client. The ROHO Group offers many support surfaces but not knowing the entirety of this situation, I cannot make an accurate recommendation. I would also consult the supply company that is providing the product to ensure that they understand the specific medical needs.

If you'd like to speak to a Customer Service Representative please call our toll free number at 1-800-851-3449. They will be more than happy to assist you, however possible.

what kind of a support surface would be best for a 6 foot tall 300pluss pound man whom is a c1 quad on a vent who spends most of his time in bed not just for sleeping. Bath, watching tv,range of motion, all adl care. who is also in prosses of trying to heal a stage three ulser. He also has verry strong mustle spazems.he needs to be pulled to the edge of the mattress to turn so that when we turn him his arms and legs have support.we can position them but if he spazems they straitenout and kick, so at least a56 inch width is needed to prevent falling out of bed and off the vent. a low air loss mattres was proscribed, and has a flaw, no head suppport, due to inproper support surfice. now a overlay is going tobe temperarly used is this going to acommadate all of his medical needs or is this overlay just for sleeping on? just want to know if this is the best alternative whall a supply company and inshurance get it figured out..waiting and worried............
